Here stood the last mentioned mill gate in 1837, also known as Nidder Gate, with the gatehouse that was demolished in 1903, later known as the shepherd’s house. This gate belonged to the fortifications of the New Town founded in 1335, and got its name from the neighboring lower mill. The gate’s upper structure was leased as a home until 1819, and was then demolished along with the gate.
