From 1263 to about 1680, the Latin school was located here, which gained great importance in the 16th century under Master Jakob Horle. Among its most famous students were:
Johann Emmerich (+ 1494),
Wigand Gerstenberg (1457 – 1522),
Euricius Cordus (1486 – 1535),
Helius Eobanus Hessus (1488 – 1540),
