Liebfrauenkirche

The three-nave hall church is one of the oldest Gothic churches in Germany. The foundation stone was laid in 1286 by Landgrave Heinrich I. It was modelled on the Elisabeth Church in Marburg (Lahn). Choir and attached St Mary’s Chapel (completed in 1380) by Tyle von Frankenberg.

Outstanding stonemasonry work. Gothic vine paintings in the vault caps – around 1485. In the choir, the remains of Gothic stained glass from the middle of the 14th century.

The stone pulpit was erected in 1554.
