MONASTERY OF ST. GEORGENBERG

Inscription

Noble Lord Konrad Itter founded a monastery for Cistercian nuns in Butzebach in the Nuhnetal in 1242. As early as 1248, it was moved to the gates of Frankenberg. The dissolution took place in 1526 with the introduction of the Reformation. The buildings were used as a revenue office and forest office. From 1662 to 1679, reformed services took place in the chapel, from 1688 to 1702 Huguenot ones. Since 1821, it has been the seat of the district administration, now the administration office Frankenberg.
