Town wine house

Inscription

From 1570 to 1842, the “City Wine House” stood here. The “wine-tapping” privilege confirmed by the Landgrave as early as 1294 was part of Frankenberg’s city rights. Only the city wine host was allowed to serve wine in Frankenberg according to the “vineyard justice”. The City Wine House was also called “scale”, because the city scales were located in it.
